Weekend Food Tour: Munching All Day @ Taipei Expo

Fresh from my camera, Mister and I explored the Taipei International Flora Exposition. We were there all day and didn't have the chance to visit some of the pavilions. The place was crowded today even it's Thursday. Anyways, to ended up we still had fun walking and munching around. Here are some photos to share :)
For Dinner : I had this grilled chicken  from Onion Restaurant

For Lunch: Just a simple spaghetti for me and rice for him + cake and coffee

We enjoyed the food from Onion and snack from Yilan :)

Chayote Tops and Salted Eggs Salad

I found this recipe in Food Magazine (April Issue last year) and I made a twist, since I don't like vinegar in my salad. Instead of blanching, I steamed the chayote tops.
Here's the recipe:
1 bundle chayote (sayote) tops
2 salted eggs
olive oil
balsamic vinegar (optional)
1 big tomato

Cut off the tough lower half of the chayote tops. Steam for few minutes. Set aside.
In a bowl, combine salted eggs and tomato with 1 tablespoon olive oil.
Place a small amount of the chayote tops . Pour the mix salted eggs and tomato on top.

 Right post for Lenten Season(specially Friday)

Sauteed Beef Broccoli in Oyster Sauce

I miss home cooking! I was eating out lately because of school works. Anyways, I have here simple dish Beef Broccoli in Oyster Sauce.

1 head broccoli, sliced into bite size
1 cup shredded beef
1 small onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
salt and pepper to taste
red pepper (optional)

In a pan, heat olive oil and saute the garlic until golden brown. Add the beef and onion, keep sauteing  until cook. Add broccoli and oyster sauce, season with salt and pepper. Serve it hot.

Purple Sweet Potato Chips

First glance at this photo without looking the title, my friends thought it's not purple sweet potato. I had this sweet potato for a long time and I don't know what to do with it. For a change, I made it into chips. Well, not bad although the color is not that appetizing.

1 large sweet potato, peeled and cut into very thin slices
2 cups iced water
oil for deep frying
sugar for dusting

Soaked the sliced sweet potato in iced water for at least 30 minutes.
Drain and allow to dry on paper towels.
Heat the oil in the frying pan. Deep fry sweet potato until crisp.
Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with sugar before serving.

Weekend Food Tour: Quail Eggs Stick

For a change, I'm featuring street food in Taipei once in a while. For today, Quail Egg is one of my favorites  here in Night Market. The eggs are always fresh then they cook them in front of customers. There are also  sauce of your choice like sweet soy sauce, salt and pepper. I prefer salt and pepper.

Here's how he made the quail eggs balls. He cracked the eggs one at a time, place them in a molder. Once the bottom of the eggs are cooked, he lifted the eggs with a stick to cook the other side.

Scallop and Spinach Pasta

For some of you know that one of my favorites meal is pasta. I love anything about pasta! I keep on discovering different ways how to prepare pasta in a healthy way. Here's another try I made, a very simple but healthy.

some cook pasta ( I used spaghetti)
2 bundles spinach
few scallops (or more)
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 cloves garlic, chopped
salt and pepper to taste
mozarella cheese (optional)

In a pan, heat oil and saute garlic and scallop. Add the spinach and lemon juice, season with salt and pepper. Place on top of pasta. Sprinkle with cheese. Serve hot.

Sautteed Asparagus in Dijon Mustard

Previously, I prepared several Asparagus Dishes and one of my favorites is Asparagus Egg Benedict, because of the good combination of asparagus and egg. This time, I used boiled quail egg and sauteed asparagus in Dijon mustard.

Bunch of asparagus
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon Dijon Mustard
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 cloves garlic, chopped
salt and pepper to taste
Quail eggs (optional)

In a pan, heat the oil and saute the garlic, add the asparagus. Season with salt and pepper, add the mustard and lemon juice. Keep sauteeing until the Asparagus is tender. Serve.
